Functional Considerations
Control ankle position throughout stance phase.
Provide stance phase stability via ankle-knee coupling.
Assist limb clearance in swing phase.
Pre-position foot for initial contact by heel.
Indications
Significant hypertonicity with seriously impaired motor
control at ankle and knee.
Post operative stability.
Achilles tendon repair.
Knee hyperextension/Genu Recurvatum.
Ankle osteoarthritis.
Ankle varus / valgus deformity (fixed/flexible).
Contraindications
Lower Motor Neuron (LMN) paralysis (flaccidity) or
hypotonicity as primary problem. (Articulated AFO or PLS
advised).
Modification Options
Walking AFO with mid sole and outer sole added to full
length base plate.
Ventilation holes.
